Team San Manuel’s James Stewart Back On The Podium In Supercross Season Opener

Anaheim, CA
(January 10, 2011) - Team San Manuel Yamaha’s James Stewart showed more than 45,000 fans in a sold out Anaheim Stadium that he’s still the “Fastest Man on the Planet” during his first Supercross race in nearly eleven months. Setting the pace with the fastest qualifying time in practice, Stewart’s speed was a key factor in helping him overcome tough starts in both his Heat race and the Main event. In Heat 2, Stewart found himself in 5th position after the first turn and immediately started working his way to first position where he took the lead by Lap 5 and held on for the win.

In the Main event, Stewart had a similar rough start when getting pinched out of a tight fist turn.
Starting in 12th position, he rapidly worked his way forward, passing rider Brett Metcalfe during Lap 12 for 3rd position. James continued closing the gap between himself and Dungey with incredible speed, narrowing Dungey’s lead to just two seconds when the checkered flag came out. Visibly happy with his 3rd place podium finish, a smiling Stewart said “I’m pretty stoked. It’s the first race back in a while and my goal was to get out there on the box. We accomplished that and I’m feeling pretty confident going into next week.”

Stewart’s Teammate Kyle Regal had a solid night as well, finishing 8th in Heat 1 for a transfer to the Main. Regal had an equally tough start in the Main event, finding himself behind his teammate in 14th position, advancing to 13th by the finish. While he had hoped for better results, Regal said “It’s the start of something good. I’ll be working hard to improve from here.”
