Team FMF Suzuki Off Road Continues Podium Streak at GNCC Round 6

May 3, 2009 Lafayette, Tenn. -- The muddiest GNCC in recent memory, Team FMF Suzuki Off Road maintained the almost impossible podium streak that began last season and continued in 2009 in round one of the series when Charlie Mullins won the opener. On this day, it was Mullins again staying on the podium with a third place finish that also launched him into second in the championship point’s chase. "I really struggled those first laps," Mullins said of the swampy course. "I was angry because I wanted to win so I guess riding angry helped me in the end. I was really comfortable those last few laps and it paid off with a third."
Mullins Suzuki team-mate Josh Strang, winner of the three previous rounds, finished fourth, just off the box. Josh set the fastest lap of the day on lap two and then Charlie’s final laps were chart toppers, almost 30 seconds faster then the leaders. If the shortened race had run its full length, Mullins might’ve won it all in the heavy Tennessee mud.
“We made the best of a really tough day,” said Team Manager Mike Webb. “Both Charlie and Josh came through with critical points; on a day like this that is what you have to do to win the championship.”
Mullins consistency has him second in GNCC Championship points with 136/1-win, just nine points out of the lead. Strang is third in the title chase just one behind Charlie with 135/3-wins. Team FMF Suzuki Off Road has been on the podium for every GNCC main event since the opening race of 2008 and the streak has continued through every race of 2009 run so far.
Team FMF Suzuki Off Road Highlights:
Charlie Mullins – 3rd place GNCC Round 6, 2nd in title chase with 136/1 win.
Josh Strang – 4th place GNCC Round 6, 3rd in GNCC Championship points with 135/3 wins.
