TLD’s Cole Seely Claims Fifth Podium of Rookie Season

East Rutherford, N.J. (April 25, 2015) – Troy Lee Designs rider Cole Seely led 13 laps in front of a national audience on the FOX network on the way to his fifth podium of the season on an increasingly deteriorating track. With track conditions challenging inside MetLIfe Stadium, Seely did all he could to pick the best lines, coming away with a third-place finish.

Early Start

The schedule for Saturday’s race was unusual as riders headed out for track walk at 7:30 a.m. Practice then was finished by 1:00 p.m., where he finished up third between the two sessions, sending him to the second heat race.

Heat Race Winner

Seely didn’t seem phased by the different schedule and went on to win his fifth heat race of the season.

“I felt really good all day, but the track was very tough to figure out because it was constantly changing,” said Seely. “It was good to get another heat race win and get the night started off right.”

Starts

Starts have been half the battle this season, and Seely has been getting the power to the ground early. He came around the first turn during the Main Event in second, and quickly moved into the lead after the second turn.

Five Rookie Season Podiums

In the last three races, Seely has led over half of the laps. He’s come across the finish line in the lead 33 times over the past 60 laps. During his first mid-day race, he persevered through a few mid-race mistakes to still come away with his fifth podium of the season, the most of any rookie on the track.

“Having the day race was pretty cool,” said Seely. “I was hoping that I could hold on to the win, but I made a mistake here and there and it ended up catching up with me. Overall, considering how tough the track conditions were, I’m happy with how the day went.”

One Race Remains

With 16 rounds in the books, the Monster Energy Supercross will head to Sam Boyd Stadium next weekend for the season finale. Seely looks to take the confidence and lessons learned throughout the year to try and go out on top.
