Stewart Wins Tenth Amp'd Mobile Supercross of the Season in Dallas

Townley Victorious in AMA Supercross Lites

IRVING, TEXAS (March 31, 2007) – Kawasaki’s James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., picked up his tenth win of the season in the Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series before a crowd of 41,635 at Texas Stadium. Kawasaki’s Ben Townley, of Tallahassee, Fla., won the AMA Supercross Lites main event.

Honda’s Andrew Short, of Smithville, Texas, grabbed the $1,500 Progressive Direct Holeshot Award off the start. Short’s lead was short lived as Stewart went flying by at the start of lap three. Yamaha’s Chad Reed, of Tampa, Fla., kept him honest as only a few bike lengths separated the two riders for the remaining 18 laps.

In the final turn, Reed made one last attempt at the win but came up just short of sneaking inside of Stewart, who finished with a .085-margin of victory.

“I’ll take anything over last weekend,” said Stewart in reference to his poor start and come-from-behind win last week in Indianapolis. “The first two laps I was just kind of riding. The track changed a lot from the heat race to the main. I swept Texas this year (winning Houston earlier in the year) and that’s big.”

Townley earned the $1,000 Progressive Direct Holeshot Award to the start the Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Lites main event, followed by Kawasaki teammate Darcy Lange, of Hemet, Calif., and Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey, of Belle Plaine, Minn. Lange would claim the lead on the opening lap with Dungey and Townley in close tow.

Dungey took over the lead on lap four and was beginning to pull away before a crash on lap eight handed the lead to Townley. Once out front, Townley went on to the victory, his third of the season. Lange finished second while Dungey rounded out the top three.

“Darcy and Dungey gave me a good battle out there,” said Townley, who closed to within three points of series points leader Ryan Morais, of Temecula, Calif., who finished fourth. “It’s (the championship) going to go down to the wire. Detroit’s going to be an intense one. I’m just going to go home and work as hard as I can to be ready for it.”

This weekend AMA Supercross race will air on SPEED, Sunday, April 1, at 6:00 p.m. EST. The AMA Supercross Lites class race will air on SPEED Saturday, April 7, at 6:00 p.m. EST. The next round of Amp’d Mobile Supercross takes place on Saturday, April 21, at Detroit’s Ford Field.
