Star Racing/NCY/Yamaha Anaheim 2 Race Recap

Round three of the AMA Supercross series made its way back to California by once again visiting Angel Stadium in Anaheim. This race brought an added amount of hype, as it was labeled throwback night making just about anything and everything step back to the early 80’s in some way. This even included the track design that provided plenty of action and a sense of freshness to the Supercross world.

Star Racing/NCY/Yamaha’s lone west coast rider Wil Hahn came into the weekend already beat up, stemming from a crash during the week while practicing. Ready and willing, Hahn suited up and went out in the first of two timed qualifying sessions and ran at the top of the field until his bike sputtered for a split second, causing a crash. Session two came around; Hahn now with his body even more beat down took to the track and set the 16th fastest time.

Slated into heat race two, Hahn’s start was lackluster but inside of the six-lap race #99 forged forward, and went on to finish 7th.

The gate dropped for the Lites main event, with Hahn fighting hard to salvage a good start. Our rookie sensation did accomplish that, however in the scrap fest, he got tangled up and found himself having to pick his bike up out of the sandy first turn. Now with a considerable amount of time to make any headway, Hahn put his head down and charged hard. At the races conclusion the Yamaha pilot could only muster a 16th place.

So it was a week of tough events, but one of the brighter notes is in his first professional Supercross season he still sits in the top 10 in points.
