Star Racing/NCY/Yamaha Anaheim 1 Race Recap

The 2008 AMA Supercross season kicked off to another sold out crowd this past weekend at Angel Stadium in Anaheim CA with Speed Channel producing a 3 hour live program capturing all the action. Early forecasts of rain ended up being untrue, but track conditions were still substantially compromised due to previous weather during the days leading up to the event. The 2008 Star Racing Yamaha west coast squad comprised of #52 Matt Lemoine and rookie #99 Wil Hahn took to the track in timed qualifying confidently, setting the 4th and 8th fastest times.

Moving into the night show, both riders were slated into the second heat race. Once the gate dropped and the riders rounded the first turn, Lemoine sat 5th; unfortunately Hahn got tangled up, and found himself lying in the mud. In the six lap race, Lemoine rode strong and smart, climbing up to 3rd, where he would finish. Hahn wasn’t as lucky and needed the LCQ to advance to the main event.

When the first lap of the main got underway, Lemoine held down 9th, and Hahn 19th, after gating in the far outside spot. Solidly in the top 10. Lemoine rose to 8th until just before the halfway mark when he made contact with another rider and crashed. By this time, the strong Wil’ed Hahn progressed to 15th. As the race came to a finish, Hahn picked up 5 more spots, putting his Yamaha in 10th. Lemoine had since remounted, but the distance to make a better result was out of reach. Hahn went on to finish 10th, in his first ever Supercross, undeniably showing true promise. Lemoine finished up 18th and is fired up to get back in the gate at Phoenix where he just missed the podium in 2007.

In addition to the Anaheim 1 race, the riders made appearances at LA shops both Thursday and Friday nights signing autographs and taking pictures with supercross crazy fans.
