Star Racing/Lucas Oil/Yamaha Rise Up at St. Louis SX

This past Saturday the AMA Lites East coast supercross series headed to the St. Louis, Missouri for the second round. Star Racing/Lucas Oil/Yamaha showed up refreshed after a great week of testing and hard riding sessions in Louisiana. Yamaha pilot Broc Tickle, calmed his nerves throughout the coming days in to his second try at a full-blown supercross and it definitely showed. However, Sean Collier despite moving forward in his program did have some struggles, forcing an off night leaving him short of qualifying.

In heat one, Tickle got off to a 6th place start and began to attack the difficult layout. On lap two he hooked a Tuff Block cover, which sucked into his rear wheel almost stopping his bike dead. Dropping back to 12th, luckily it broke lose allowing another charge to go for a top nine placing. After finding his way back to 8th, yet again he encountered more troubles with a small crash, but he remounted quickly. Now sitting outside the bubble Broc surged ahead in the closing laps. If all that was not dramatic enough one more crash still followed, but he did snag the 9th position moving him on to the main event.

For the main event, track conditions had deteriorated which played into the rookie’s smart riding style. Finishing lap one in 11th, Tickle avoided all the carnage and set out towards the front. Lap eight saw him reach 8th, conservatively Tickle kept a constant pace that the competition lacked to acquire. Running 6th with three laps to go it looked as if that’s where he stay, luck was on his side when the racer ahead threw it away on the last lap giving 5th to the North Carolia resident.

For our 17-year-old rookie, things turned around in a great way, proving his skills are the real deal. This weekend the series goes to the most demanding circuit, the famed Daytona supercross.
