Sorby Leads Pirelli Riders Through Final Race at Angel Stadium

Rome, Ga. – As the Monster Energy Supercross tour finishes the third and final race at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium, Team Pirelli boasts eight riders in the enviable top positions. Led by MotoXXX/Tamer/Hooters/Honda’s Eric Sorby, of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Team Pirelli heads to San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium next weekend.

In the AMA Supercross class main, Pirelli riders Sorby, Jeff Gibson and Antonio Balbi positioned themselves in the main event and helped their overall point standings. Sorby finished eighth and is 19th overall. Cernic’s Kawasaki’s Jeff Gibson finished fourth in his heat and 17th in the main. Brazilian native Antonio Balbi bounced back after last week’s race in San Francisco to earn a 19th-place finish in the main.

Michael Willard, of Thornville, Ohio, worked his way into the Lites class main events by finishing seventh in his heat race. The Team Cycra rider finished 12th and now sits in 19th place overall. Chris Blose raced his Fun Center Suzuki to 14th place in the main and is 14th overall. SVM/Bud Selct Honda rider Jeff Northrop, Murrieta, Calif., won the Asterisk Medic Card as he missed making the AMA Supercross Lites class main by one position.

“Now that the races are out of Anaheim, the racers will have to adjust to different stadiums and different dirt, we are ready for the next challenge,” said Pirelli MX Manager Josh Whitmire. “San Diego is always a huge event, so we are excited to get there and put in some solid results. We have five guys in the top 22 positions in the Lites class, and we will build off of that as the season evolves.”
