Smith Athletes Shine in Texas

Smith Athletes bring home 8 championships and a slew of podium finishes at this year’s Spring Classic in Lake Whitney, TX. Leading the way was Motosport Extreme Team Green rider, PJ Larsen, who came away with two championships in two of the most competitive classes of the event; Motocross A/Pro Sport and 4 Stroke – Open Skill. With this being PJ’s last year as an amateur, he is looking to go out on top before his pro debut at Millville later this summer. We will be hearing more about this young phenom throughout the year.

Keith Johnson also went home with two championships in his respective classes. Keith has been around the sport for a while and proved that he still has what it takes to be a champion.

Long time Smith Athlete Travis Baker ran up front the whole week in all of his classes, proving a championship wasn’t far out of reach for this young Yamaha backed rider. Travis ended up taking home the Motocross B Stock championship while taking home second place in the collegeboy class.

Smith’s youngest superstar, Sean Cantrell took home a championship in the 51cc 7-8 stock class. Sean won both motos en route to his championship, while struggling in one moto in the 51cc open class shortened his hopes of another championship. Look out for Sean to redeem himself and claim a few more championships at Oak Hill this week.

We go from Smith’s youngest to one of Smith’s most seasoned athletes in Trampas Parker. Trampas took the title in one of his classes while placing 2nd behind fellow Smith athlete Keith Johnson in the others. Trampas is fairly new to the team and we couldn’t be more excited to have him on board for 2008. We look for great things to come from him this year.

Last but not least, Smith’s Ian Trettel came through to capture the Youth 12-16 B/C championship. Ian is another long-time Smith faithful who is known to put his sponsors on top of the podium. With him being close to top form this year, we look for a few more championships this season from the Suzuki-backed rider.

While the Spring Classic has come to an end, the GNC Motocross International event starts up tomorrow and we wish the best of luck to everyone competing. Stay tuned for another update later this week and congratulations to these guys for their accomplishments thus far in Texas…
