Press Release

Shultz / Decoster / Payton / Byrne / Ryno / James / DeChamp on DMXS Tonight!

We are honored to welcome Craig Shultz on the program after the latest Charlie Brown inspired Racer X cover and article outlining the rise of Joe Motocross through the pen of his famous father. Craig is as core and old-school motocross as they come, and was a witness to the genesis of our beloved sport in America almost forty years ago. He will join us and share some of those experiences with us this evening. If you have a question for Craig, please forward them to izer@msn.com and we will get to as many as possible.

Makita Suzuki’s Roger DeCoster has survived many trials and tribulations throughout his racing career, but the stress of managing a Factory team must be like one long moto. After losing Ricky Carmichael to retirement, the Suzuki team has been plagued by injuries and just plain, old bad luck. Roger hopes to turn things around in 2009 with the recent signing of Chad Reed to his roster and will call in from the shop tonight with an update on the team and the Motocross of Nations effort.

Pro Circuit’s Mitch Payton has a semi door full of championship plates but is always working toward the next one. Mitch hung out with us at Loretta’s most of the week during the break but we still wanted to bother him one more time. The lovable PC patriarch will drop by and fill us in on his team as the outdoors schedule heads for the home stretch.

Factory Makita Suzuki’s pilot Michael Byrne has spent much of the year recovering from a major knee injury, but he is finally up to speed and results are showing that all that hard work and rehabilitation are paying off. He lives just a few miles from our studio and might just drop by for a Mexican dinner with us before the show.

Jim DeChamp was a teammate of mine for Baja 1000 in 2006 and is one of the gnarliest guys I know. You would never realize from his calm demeanor that Jim can flat out get it done no matter what the task. Well, somehow his best friend Travis Pastrana talked him into attempting a front flip at the X Games that did not go as planned. When I called Jim to line up the interview and make sure he was well, he was somewhere in Utah with Travis and they were base jumping their hotel or something. After all the concern for my fallen comrade, he is right back at it and I would expect nothing less.

Ricky James was a promising young amateur motocross prospect whose career was cut short by a spinal injury that left him paralyzed. His sprit was not affected by the injury and has never looked back since. He continues to be an inspiration to all that know him by his attitude and boundless achievements. Ricky is currently training with David Bailey for the infamous Ironman Triathlon and will give us a call after a day of road work.

Ryan "Ryno" Hughes has been a guest on our show many times and is a fan favorite for his candid interviews. He just opened "Rynoland," which is a complete track and training facility for dirt bikes and even CORR trucks if you towed your trailer there with one of those bad boys.
