Sébastien Pourcel’s Injury Update

Two weeks after his crash during the Benelux GP pre-qualifying session, Sébastien Pourcel undergoes another series of exams on his left shoulder which was injured in the crash.

Sébastien now has several meetings with some famous French specialists to decide whether or not he will need surgery to repair the injuries. He had to wait longer than expected to get a verdict from Professor Olivier Dufour from Aix-en-Provence, as the shoulder was too sore after the crash to deliver enough information on the first radio scans. Yesterday, Seb had an arthroscopy which revealed that the tendons are stretched. “I had to wait several days to get a verdict from Olivier, and now I need to visit several of the best specialists in order to take the best decision and to decide whether or not I need a surgery. I already know that a surgery would mean eight weeks of recovery, and then a few weeks of training before coming back racing” explained the factory Kawasaki rider who is still working physically. “I’m working daily on my right shoulder injured in Guadeloupe last season, and every week I feel better and better’ he adds, confirming that both injuries were not painful.”

The Kawasaki Racing Team management is awaiting more details about Sébastien’s recovery. “As we’ve continuously said after the crash in Valkenswaard, Seb will be back racing only when he is fully fit. At the moment we need to know if he will have surgery or not, and then we’ll finalize a decision together with Kawasaki Japan. At the moment we have a couple of options to replace Seb during several GP’s, and we’ll give out more information as soon as possible” explained team owner Roger Pourcel.
