Rockstar Energy Racing Mini O's 2013 Race Report‏

The Rockstar Energy Racing squad made the trek from California all the way over to Gatorback MX for the 2012 Mini O’s Amateur Motocross National, located in Gainesville, FL. The race is held annually over the Thanksgiving Holiday week. For 2013, the team is focusing on one elite rider in Daniel Baker who was making the trip for his ninth time.

Mini O’s is the only race every year that that splits the week between two disciplines. The first half of the week being supercross and the second half motocross. The motocross track actually being the old Gatorback MX, a former stop on the AMA Outdoor National Series.

The week started off very well for Daniel. With lap times that would be competitive in the A class during qualifying. Baker was able to secure two main event podiums and claim one title on the supercross track, but he was right there in contention to win all three. He definitely made his case for being one of the top B riders in the country with his efforts.

After his success in the SX portion of the week, Mr. Baker had his head held high coming into outdoors and did not disappoint. His lap times once again were very solid and after the first couple motos, things looked very promising. In fact he was able to win the four stroke class by 16 seconds on his RM-Z 250, even against a slew of 450’s! Then just a few hundred feet into his next moto, things went bad. Daniel went down in the fast left hand first turn and was run over by multiple riders. He got up very sore. After a trip to the hospital and finding nothing broken, he decided he would try to race his next moto. Things we’re going to be very tough though. Although nothing was broken, he was extremely beat up. He put in a very gutsy performance and was able to still place 2nd overall in 250 B stock. However in the process, his shoulder injury only got worse and he was unable to continue further. He did his best to try and continue and that’s all that anyone could ask of him.

Daniel Baker: “In Supercross I did well with 2 podiums and a championship. In motocross, not so good. I ended up getting injured. This was my last B class race but the plan is to move up to the A class before the spring nationals and I aim to come out swinging!”
