Texas
is a very big state so it only makes sense to have a very big TV……Well
make that three very big TV’s. In fact I’ve been told that the TV set
up in the stadium actually cost more than the Cowboy’s entire old
stadium to build. Perhaps Jerry Jones should throw some extra money
into the Pro purse next year to make the racing really interesting.
Like a one off US Open in the middle of the series. I think that would
be cool if these supercross racers had a chance to win a mere fraction
of the dollars that professional football players make. That also may
justify the whiskey throttle tango fox trot take out moves all of us
have enjoyed thus far this season. Poor Reed certainly didn’t see that
coming this weekend. Glad everyone is ok. Not to mention that track was
gnarly. Even as Mr. Kenny “check out my hair” Adams and I were watching
practice, it was like an entire neighborhood assembling a swap meet in
their front yards. (Yard sale if that was too deep and subtle for you)
In fact the great Asterisk crew even had their work cut out for them as
they may have even needed a second emergency cart to keep up. This
excitement coupled with 51,000 in attendance created absolute fanarchy!
Rockstar
Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey is really hanging in there. He has been on
the podium in nearly every main event. This weekend was no different.
However if not for some “battles” with lapped traffic he most likely
would have gained points on Leader Ryan Villopoto as opposed to losing
them. I fully understand riding your own race and the difficulty of
pulling aside when getting lapped, but I got the impression it was much
worse than that. I could not see it but I guess Dungey was even taken
out by a lapped rider so still finishing on the podium on that track is
really impressive. Ryan now sits one point of of 2nd and seven points
out of 1st for the championship. He is obviously in this thing til the
end and should not be counted out. The way this season has gone and the
way he has fought through adversity should be enough in my mind to
remove the footnote to his recent title collecting. Even if he doesn’t
win this SX title he has done what he has done with every big fiver at
every race. Give the kid some credit now.
Austin “I shaved my Kenny Adams Hair off” Stroupe has shown that he is
on the fast track to being the Stroupy of old. His style is awesome to
watch and his speed is really returning. Aboard his Valli Motorsports
Rockstar Yamaha, he’s starting to put the pieces together. Austin
showed that even with a crash he is still a top ten guy finishing in
9th. I know he is working very hard at the practice track and is solid
for twenty laps plus out there. Of course racing 20 laps is much, much
different. Stay tuned for Stroupe to improve each and every week from
here on out. Then bring on outdoors cause he’s pretty excited to go
outside.
Gonna
go ahead and break my rules here a bit. Sometimes a rider puts in a
good enough ride to “qualify” for this race report even when finishing
outside the top ten in the main. Perhaps it was because of the cool
Texas Longhorns Hewitt butt patch Hunter was running. Pretty sure One
Industries gets the award for the coolest patches of the year. On the
other hand maybe I’m just proud of Double H’s come back. Hunter went
down in the first corner which more often than not means you are in
last place. This time was no different. Hewitt picked himself up with
disappointment in his head knowing he had a start solidly in the top
five. He put his head down and attacked the technical track making it
all the way back to almost the top ten in 11th. Close enough for this
guy as A’s are consistently given out for effort. I’ll give it a B+
though cause I know he can top five this thing. Hunter…….I’m waiting……
