Redux Beverages/Brawndo Honda event update presented by Kingdom Crown

July 13th, 2008

Team Redux Beverages/Brawndo Honda stormed into Southern Maryland for round seven of the 2008 AMA Motocross National Series. Located only ½ hour south of Washington DC, Budd’s Creek, Maryland isn’t more than a dot on a map, but the fans turned out in droves to support their favorite riders and partake in an incredible day of racing.

As always, “Brawndo” Bob Kiniry led the charge into the weekend’s action. He was quick, cool and ready to put his Brawndo backed Honda CRF 250R in front of the pack. When the gate dropped on moto one, he did just that. Bob missed snagging the holeshot by mere feet, but was running inside the top five on the opening lap. Unfortunately, a small rock had wedged its way between his brake pedal and the aluminum frame of his Honda, locking his rear wheel and leaving him fighting just to move at all. He managed to nurse it back to the mechanics area, where JR Boyd sprung into action and remedied the problem. By this time, however, the deficit was large and Bob decided to take a few more laps before packing it in for the moto.

Moto two started a little slower, but it also was free of any mechanical issues. Bob rallied back from a start outside the top twenty and knifed through the field like a hot knife through Brawndo. By the end of the long moto, he had climbed into 12th position and secured nine national points. Bob fought his way through some very fast company and rode a fast and aggressive pace.

“Redux” Ryan Clark has been struggling as of late with a nagging ankle injury. He was out to do battle again this weekend, but was not riding at his normal pace or with as much aggression as he would have liked.

The first moto began with a lackluster start. After a few laps, Ryan had begun steadily climbing through the field and passing riders with relative ease. With only a handful of laps to go, it looked as though he would dip inside the top twenty. On a tight off-camber turn, however, Ryan hooked his ankle on the outside bank of the track and re-injured the already tender ankle ligament. After riding slow for a lap, he re-passed a few riders to finish 22nd on the moto.

The second moto began much better, as Ryan was inside the top twenty by the end of lap one. On the third lap, he lost his front end exiting a turn and hit the ground. After remounting, he was at a huge deficit and rode the rest of the moto trying to make up the ground. In the end, he could only muster 26th position.

Next week the series will move to Bob’s homes state of New York, for the storied Unadilla National. Stay tuned for the latest updates and news of the Redux Beverages/Brawndo Honda squad at www.teamsolitaire.com or drinkbrawndo.com. See you at the races.
