Redux Beverages/Brawndo Honda Event Update presented by Kingdom Crown

AMA Toyota Motocross Championships – Sacramento, CA

June 1, 2008

Round two of the AMA Toyota Motocross National Championship series went off without a hitch this past weekend amidst the rolling hills of the Hangtown Off-Highway Vehicle Park located on the outskirts of Sacramento, CA. The Redux Beverages/Brawndo Honda squad was well represented, with Bob Kiniry piloting his Honda CRF 250R in the Lites division, and a pair of Ryan’s (Clark and Grantom) doing the honors in the 450cc class.

Saturday practice went well, with Clark posting the eighth quickest time in the 450cc class and Kiniry notching 15th in the Lites class. New recruit Ryan Grantom logged the 33rd quickest time in the 450cc class, but missed qualification by just one position. Grantom was forced into the Sunday morning consolation, where he again missed qualifying by only one position. His weekend would come to an abrupt halt.

The gate dropped on the first moto of the Lites class and “Brawndo” Bob Kiniry smashed his way into the top ten. He rode a flawless first half of the race, maintaining a top ten position and riding with typical Bob-like intensity. His great ride came to a premature end when he crashed in a turn and had trouble re-starting his bike. He rode it on in for 32nd position for the moto.

Bob came out of the gate fast and furious in moto two, but quickly found himself on the ground in a heap when he collided with Nico Izzi in turn one. He remounted and spent the rest of the moto playing catch up. He eventually found his way into 24th position.

Ryan Clark was fresh off quite possibly the most frustrating race of his career. After two disappointing motos in Glen Helen, one ending in a crash on lap three and the other in a pre-race disqualification for having his bike leave the start area after the gate had already been loaded, he was looking for redemption.

Unfortunately, there would be no redemption in moto one, as an electrical problem with his motorcycle forced early withdrawal from the race. Ryan’s mechanic Mark, with the help of Mike Battista, JR Boyd and Arthur Clinton, ripped the bike apart for a complete engine swap and electrical system replacement. They finished with time to spare and things looked good for a better run in moto two.

Moto two was just what Ryan needed to get his series back on track. After gating inside the top twenty, he picked off riders one by one on the now bruised, battered and beaten Hangtown course. At the conclusion of 17 long laps, Ryan found himself in eleventh position.

All in all, the weekend was a success. Kiniry proved he has the speed to run well inside the top ten, Clark rallied back from the trenches to notch an impressive finish, and Ryan Grantom rode with improved speed and intensity but fell just short of making the cut. Redux Beverages/Brawndo Honda will be back on the track again next weekend in Wortham, TX, looking for another successful weekend of racing action.
