The KTM squad made their way into the Lone Star State this weekend for round 6 of the AMA West Coast Supercross Lites series.
After inspiring performances at Anaheim 3 and with both Martin Davalos and Josh Hansen 100% healthy, Houston looked like the place were KTM could get it’s first podium of the 2007 season.
As timed qualifying started at Reliant Stadium it didn’t take long for one of the treacherous whoop sections to claim one of its first victims. Unfortunately, the victim was Davalos. He got up and finished with only minor cuts to his hand, but it did however limit his ability to set a fast lap time.
Both riders easily got in the night program with Davalos in heat 1 and Hansen in heat 2. Getting a good start is everything in Supercross and Davalos got another one of his patented good starts during his heat race, easily putting himself into a qualifying position for the main event with a solid fourth place. Hansen wasn’t as lucky, but that didn’t slow him down as his 8th place in heat 2 also moved him directly into the main event.
With high hopes for two good finishes the start of the Supercross Lites main event didn’t go as planned. Davalos started midpack and Hansen found himself sitting on the ground after being involved in a first turn pileup.
Davalos quickly worked his way up into the lead pack, while Hansen spent almost the whole main event playing catch up to finish 12th. In the end Davalos would get his best finish so far this season with a fifth.
