Red Bull FIM Motocross Of Nations Sees First Female Participation With Tarah Gieger

BUDDS CREEK, 21 September 2007- After 60 editions of the FIM Motocross of Nations, the first female competitor is now ready to step into the event.

Thanks to Puerto Rican Tarah Gieger’s participation, the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations will make history, as it will host the first female rider competing in the event.

Tarah Gieger will race in the MX2 class for Team Puerto Rico, which is at its first appearance in the Nations, on a Yamaha YZF 250. Gieger, who was born on the 18th of September 1985 in Aguadilla, but currently lives in Florida, USA, won the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur three times, and finished twice in the top three at the WMA series.

Tarah, who also loves surfing -where she has competed at international level- has started to race motorbikes when she was just 11; in Puerto Rico, where she races the National Championship, she is capable of battling it out with her male colleagues.

When asked about this weekend’s race, an excited Tarah Gieger said: “I am quite confident at the moment, I think I have the speed to run with some of the guys out there; I am honoured both for being the first girl to race at the Nations, and for representing Puerto Rico at this very important event. When I received the call, I was positive straight away. This is everybody’s dream, and it is coming true for me!”
