Ramon takes 7th Belgian Title‏

Steve Ramon has claimed his
7th Belgian Motocross Title, his 5th in the open
class, ending a superb season of racing. As well as wrapping up the title
in style, Ramon had more to be excited about this weekend, as he signed for
the 2011 season with the Rockstar Teka Suzuki World MX1 Team. 2011 will
mark the 6th season for Ramon on board the Factory RM-Z450WS
machine.

The ‘Bomb’ came into
this final round with a 31 point advantage and feeling strong he wanted to
wrap it up with a victory in the first moto, and that is exactly what he
did.

As the gate dropped for race one
Ramon launched his number 11 machine out the gates and set off around the
opening lap out front, whilst team mate Desalle followed closely. On lap
two Desalle slipped past Ramon as he took the lead, leaving Ramon battling
it out with DeDycker, who also managed to slip past, relegating Ramon to
3rd. The three Belgians battled it out lap after lap as they
lead the international field of riders. On lap eleven DeDycker and Ramon
both worked their way back past Desalle, as Ramon was now really hounding
DeDycker for the lead. With three laps remaining Ramon made his move past
DeDycker and into the lead, powering his Suzuki to victory, and claiming
his 7th Belgian title.

Moto two would see another exciting
battle between Desalle, Ramon, DeDycker and Guarneri, as the lead changed
hands on three occasions. In the end it was Guarneri that took the
chequered flag, followed by DeDycker and Ramon, who had entertained the
crowd with some awesome racing, putting end to a great season for the
National Championship.

"It's been a perfect week," said
Ramon. "I had a 31-point lead coming into the race and that was because of
some decent results earlier in the season. I think this was one of my best
Championships as the racing was good and against some good opposition. I
really enjoyed myself and although the track was a little tricky today,
with many ruts and slippery parts, I did what was needed to make sure of
the title.

"I am really happy to stay another year and it was
an easy decision because I work well with the team, the bike is very good;
and we all get along. I think we have had some good seasons together and
I'm pleased we will have another one," Ramon added, regarding his new
contract and who - aside from his neck fracture in 2009 - has yet to drop
out of the top five in a World Championship finish for the Belgian crew
since he joined in 2006.

"We wanted some stability for next
year and keeping Steve as a second rider was a show of loyalty from us and
in the end was a straightforward decision," commented Team Principal
Sylvain Geboers.

"If he makes a season without any significant
injury then he is still a title contender and he works well with Clement
and the team - and this is important. I'm very pleased with the two riders
we will have for 2011 and we will now work to continue the good
organisation that surrounds them."
