Rain Stops First Day of Spanish Grand Prix

BELLPUIG, 14 April 2007- Due to heavy rain, today’s practice sessions were cancelled. Here in Bellpuig, it has been raining a lot in the last few days.

The rain actually started on Thursday; the FIM Motocross World Championship circus enjoyed a short break yesterday, but the rain restarted at night, and continued for the whole day.

The sky was almost clear in the evening, and the weather forecast is positive for tomorrow, with sunny-cloudy conditions.

Now all is ready for tomorrow’s Grand Prix of Spain in Bellpuig

It was a busy day anyway, with the teams working on the bikes to adapt them to tomorrow’s track conditions.

The Grand Prix of Spain will be held tomorrow; the day will start at 9.00 am with the MX2 Timed Practice, followed by the MX1 Timed Practice at 10.00 am. The first race will be at 12.05 am (MX2), as the MX1 Grand Prix Race 1 will be at 1.05 pm.

MX1

This second Grand Prix of the season will be an interesting challenge for home rider Jonathan Barragan of the KTM Red Bull Racing team. The Spaniard will chase Coppins for the Championship lead, but both rivals have to watch out from a very motivated Suzuki factory team, with Kevin Strijbos and Steve Ramon.

MX2

In the MX2 class, current leader Antonio Cairoli is ready to squeeze his De Carli Yamaha, and increase his advantage over runner up Tyla Rattray. But Kawasaki’s Gareth Swanepoel and defending Champion Christophe Pourcel will not let the two go away so easily.

While mechanics and riders were discussing about their bikes, all the team managers met in the Ristorante Italiano; it was their first meeting of the year, and the teams representatives were finally elected: Martin van Genderen of Kawasaki Racing, Lisa Church of Molson Kawasaki, and Siep de Wit of Brouwer Vangani Racing.
