Prestigious Amateur Motocross Event Coming to Miller Motorsports Park This Weekend

Amateurs from throughout western U.S. will try to qualify for national championship event
TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (May 20, 2015) —One of North America’s most prestigious amateur motocross events comes to Miller Motorsports Park this weekend, May 22-24, attracting more than 500 riders from throughout the western United States who hope to qualify for the AMA National Championship event in July.
The Rockwell Watches Super Area Qualifier for the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship presented by AMSOIL at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch is a new event at Miller Motorsports Park, which has greatly increased its emphasis on motocross in the past few years. The track has hosted the Utah National round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship since 2013, added the Rockwell Watches Amateur Motocross Showdown in 2014 and hosted the inaugural Rockwell Watches Pro-Am earlier this year.
Riders from all over the country compete in the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship qualifier program. Thirty-eight classes are available for competitors from four years old to 50-plus on a range of motorcycles, including 50cc minibikes to highly modified 450cc motocross machines.
The Area Qualifiers serve as the first step in qualifying for the world’s largest and most prestigious amateur motocross championship. The Regional Championships are the next step to seed riders into the National Championship event at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. Only riders who finish in a qualifying position at a Regional Championship are eligible to race the National Championship event.
“Our motocross track will be showcased this weekend in the second of four major motocross events to be held at Miller Motorsports Park in 2015,” said General Manager Brian Smith. “The track is in great condition for racing, and we look forward to hosting hundreds of riders who are chasing their dreams of advancing to the regionals.”
The Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship presented by AMSOIL, which will take place at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., between July 26 and Aug. 1, is the world’s biggest amateur motocross event. Winning there has helped launch the careers of many top Supercross and Motocross stars, including Ryan Dungey, Ken Roczen, Ryan Villopoto, James Stewart, Eli Tomac, Ricky Carmichael, Doug Henry and Jeff Emig.
On-track activity for the Rockwell Watches Super Area Qualifier will get underway on Friday with open practice sessions, followed by a complete schedule of feature motos on both Saturday and Sunday. Gates will drop for the first motos of the day at 9:30 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Ticket prices range from $15 for adults and $10 for kids aged 6-11 for Sunday only to $30 for adults and $20 for kids aged 6-11 for multi-day tickets covering Friday through Sunday.
