Pirelli’s Tarah Gieger Returns to Action to Defend X Games Gold Medal

Rome, Ga. – One year ago, Tarah Gieger made women’s motocross history by becoming the inaugural gold medalist in the Women’s Moto X competition at the ESPN X Games. Injured since May with a broken wrist suffered at the FIM World Motocross Championship, Gieger will make her 2009 U.S. motocross debut on Saturday inside The Home Depot Center defending her gold medal aboard Pirelli Scorpion MX tires.

Pitted against some of the world’s toughest riders last year in five-time WMA champion Jessica Patterson and perennial front-runner Sherri Cruse, Gieger outlasted the competition and kept the bike on two wheels to take the biggest win of her young career.

The Puerto Rican native will showcase Scorpion MX hard 90/100-21 front tires and Scorpion MX Hard 120/80-19 rear tires made especially for four stroke machines. The top-quality structure and unmatched durability give Gieger an advantage on the hard-packed, slick surface she and her competitors will face Saturday afternoon.

The newly-named Women’s Moto X Super X gets underway Saturday, August 1 at 6:15 p.m. from The Home Depot Center in Carson , Calif. Television coverage of the festivities can be seen on ESPN beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.
