Pirelli Tires Continue Dominance at FIM MX World Championships in Bulgaria

Philippaerts & Searle Victorious in MX1/MX2 Classes While Rookie Fiolek Earns Podium Position

Rome, Ga. – Pirelli Tires continued their worldwide commitment to excellence at the fourth round of the FIM World Championship at the GP of Bulgaria. Pirelli-backed David Philippaerts and Tommy Searle won the MX1 and MX2 overalls respectively. At her debut FIM Women’s World Championship at the GP of Bulgaria, American’s Ashley Fiolek raced to a third place finish aboard Pirelli tires before an impressive crowd of 27,000.

Riding atop the Pirelli Scorpion MX, Yamaha’s David Philippaerts captured the MX1 overall by winning the first moto and finishing second in moto two. In doing so, he extended his points lead to 17 over Suzuki’s Steve Ramon.

Like Philippaerts, Searle won the second MX2 FIM MX World Championship overall of his career and used Pirelli’s Scorpion MX tire, finishing 1-2 on the day. The KTM rider now leads the MX2 points race by 11 over fellow Pirelli rider Tyla Rattray.

Fiolek fought hard to secure the third-place position in the opening moto, battling with Kawasaki’s Maria Franke. In the second moto, Fiolek tangled with Germany’s Larissa Papenmeier, causing the two to crash. Papenmeier was unable to return to the race while Fiolek charged to a fourth-place finish, giving her third overall.

"We are glad to provide Ashley with the highest level of tire support at the FIM Women's World Championships and the WMA events held in the United States," said Pirelli’s MX Manager Josh Whitmire.
