Pirelli Scorpion Tires Handle Texas Heat in Round 2 of the AMA Motocross Championship Series

Wortham, Texas, May 31st,
2011
-
Team Joe Gibbs Racing's (JGR MX) Davi Millsaps finished 2nd
overall and moved up to 3rd in the championship standing this week at
Freestone Raceway in Wortham, Texas - the site for the second round
of the 2011 AMA Motocross Championship Series.  Millsaps’
Yamaha was fitted with a Pirelli Scorpion MX Mid Soft front and
Scorpion MX Mid Soft Mud rear tire combination, helping the rider to
achieve a podium finish - second overall – in the competitive 450
Class. Freestone is generally thought of as the hottest stop on the
tour, and with temperatures well over 100 degrees, riders and
equipment were tested in the hot Texas sun.

"We
are very happy for Davi and JGR MX podium finish,” said Chris Wall,
Pirelli Tire North America Motorcycle Division’s director of
marketing.  “Davi put two great motos together on one of the
toughest stops of the AMA Championship."

When
the gate fell for moto one, Millsaps found himself just inside the
top-10. Over the ensuing 30 minutes plus two-laps Millsaps finishing
just one place from the podium in fourth place.

The
start of the second moto found Millsaps running fifth, gaining two
positions by lap three. Millsaps held down third in the 104 degree
heat until only a lap left in the race – pushing his bike to second
position - which is where he finished.  Millsaps’ 4 – 2 moto
finishes earned him second-place overall for the day. Millsaps is
currently third in series points with 10 rounds left.

first moto from Freestone was broadcast live on allisports.com and
