Pirelli Racers Earn Wins at GNCC and Canadian Nationals

Rome, Ga. – Pirelli-backed racers enjoyed victories at Round 7 of GNCC Championships in Sparta, Ken., and Round 2 of the CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals in Courtland, Ontario.

Despite the dusty conditions on the rugged Sparta GNCC track, Pirelli Tire’s Kailub Russell piloted his Powersport Grafx KTM 250F to the win in the XC2 Pro Class with a finishing time of 2:57:00 over Dustin Gibson’s 2:58:02. Russell, who recently graduated high school, is currently in third place overall with 103 points.

“This was an inspirational ride for Kailub,” said Josh Whitmire, Pirelli’s MX Manager. “He’s enjoyed success as an amateur and now he’s taking his racing to a new level. We’re very proud of him and look forward to many great races ahead of him for Pirelli Tire.”

Also riding on Pirelli Scorpion MXMS tires, Russell’s teammate Cory Butrick scored a win in the 4 stroke A Lites Class.

Glenn Kearney, riding for the Summers Racing team, enjoyed a breakout race as he finished second overall for the Pirelli squad. He currently sits seventh overall in the XC1 Pro Class.

The GNCC’s next step is Round 8, Elka Yadkin Valley Stomp in Yadkinville, N.C. For more information on the GNCC log on to www.gnccracing.com.

Playing host to the second stop of the Canadian Motocross Nationals, the Gopher Dunes MX Track was dominated by Pirelli Tire riders Eric Nye (MX2), who rides for the KTM Royal Distributing team, and Tyler Medaglia (MX1) OTSFF Suzuki team.

In the MX2 Class, Nye, who has a commanding 20-point lead in the overall points standings, finished 1-1. Pirelli-mounted Ryan Lochart finished sixth aboard his KTM Canada machine. OTSFF Suzuki’s Jeremy Medaglia finished 10th overall.

Tyler Medaglia rode to his first MX1 victory of the season beating fellow Pirelli rider Dusty Klatt. Medaglia pushed his OTSFF Suzuki to 3-1 finishes while Klatt rode his Cernics Kawasaki to 1-3 finishes, which was good enough for second overall. Klatt trails Medaglia by 12 points in season standings.

“After only two races Pirelli Tire-backed racers lead the top three positions in MX2 points and the top two positions in MX1 points,” added Whitmire. “We’re off to a great summer and expect to continue this dominance.”

Earning a solid sixth-place finish, Mitch Cooke, who is teammates with the Medaglia brothers, finished 6-6 and is 12th overall in season standings. KTM Canada’s Jeff Northrop scored 10th over and Cernics Kawasaki’s Jeff Northrop finished 11th overall.

The next stop of the CMRC Monster Energy Nationals takes place at Shadow Valley Raceway June 14-15 in Manitoba.
