Being a past victor of the Czech GP
in 2009, Gautier Paulin, came to Loket for the 12th round of the
FIM MX World championship, determined to battle for the win in front
of over 20.000 spectators.
The likable Frenchman was also
confirmed on Saturday as the Open class rider to represent Team France,
alongside Steven Frossard (MX1) and Marvin Musquin (MX2) in the upcoming
65th edition of the Motocross of Nations to be held in St Jean
d’Angely in September.
Scattered rain showers turned the
hilly Loket circuit into a tricky and slippery affair for Moto 1, however
Paulin quickly made his way into third place in the opening laps with some
well calculated passing maneuvers. He then set his sights on the
leading duo of Roczen and Herlings but around lap 5 experienced some
technical problems and was sidelined moments later.
As the gate dropped for Moto
2, Paulin managed to avoid some first turn mayhem but was left way
down the pack outside the top 20. He rocketed his way up the
standings and by lap 7 was already into 7th place gaining 2
seconds a lap on the bunch ahead of him. With time running out,
Paulin, passed Max Anstie for 5th and hounded Arnaud Tonus to
the checkered flag.
“I lost some valuable points
in the championship this weekend but of course we will keep working hard to
get back on the podium and I want to win a GP before the end of the season
– this is the goal. I’m also happy to be selected for the
French MX of Nations team. It will be in my home country, which
will bring even more motivation for us. We want to win this year and
I feel comfortable on the 450 and am looking forward to testing and
preparing for this event” explained Paulin.
Next up on the calendar will be
round 13 of the 15 round series in Matterly Basin on the 20-21
August.
