PIRELLI PLACES ON PODIUM AT MOTOCROSS OF NATIONS

St. Jean d’Angely
, (France), September 18, 2011 – The
65th Motocross of Nations saw the twenty-second victory scored by the
USA in beating France and Australia thanks to category wins taken by
Ryan Dungey (MX1) and Ryan Villopoto (Open).
The third member of the team, Blake Baggett, was fourth in MX2. In the
traditional season-closing team event, Pirelli Scorpion MX made the
podium thanks to Frenchman Gautier Paulin and Christophe Pourcel, 2nd in the MX Open
class and 13th in MX1 respectively,
despite a rear wheel problem that caused the latter’s retirement in the
third moto. The public cheered on the third member of the team Marvin
Musquin while the Australian Matt Moss finished
the first moto to help his country but couldn’t take to the gate of the
second with a technical problem. Pirelli performed well for world
champion Ken Roczen as he took second- and fourth-places for first
position overall in MX2 with the factory KTM fitted
(like other Pirelli riders) with Scorpion MidSoft 32 front and rear.
After second-place in qualification, Team Italy rose no higher than 16th
due to crashes by Alex Lupino and Antonio Cairoli; the latter suffering
a fracture to his left scaphoid. The only Italian
to classify was Davide Guarneri with 5th in MX Open.
