Spain’s Gomez Wins Women’s EnduroCross Championship

Intense Last Race Battle Decides Title In California

Ontario, California. (November 21, 2015) – The GEICO AMA EnduroCross Series finished in California and the Women’s Class Championship came down to the final round of the year. Coming into the event, Husqvarna-backed Sandra Gomez from Spain had a single point lead over a very determined Rachel Gutish from the FMF/RPM/KTM Team Maxxis squad.

Gutish started fast, grabbing the holeshot with Gomez getting through the first corner cleanly in second to set up a duel to the end to decide the championship. Early on, the elevated rock garden grabbed Gutish and put her down, allowing the smooth-riding Gomez past. Gutish would restart quickly but found trouble in the bigger rock pile on the same lap.

Meanwhile, Gomez rode smartly and cleanly to stay up front and on the third lap, Gutish was still in second place with defending champion Lexi Pechout in third.

Gomez rode flawlessly for the win and championship—earning the title in her second year on the circuit with an emotional celebration with her team and friends in the center of the start straight.

EnduroCross events also include three support classes held at each of the rounds throughout the season. Finishing in the top positions qualifies racers in Vet, Open Amateur and Trialscross classes. National Championships are decided in a one-race showdown at the final round. In the Vet class, Josh Adams took a hard-fought win and the title—besting class favorite Stephen Foord after his chain broke. In the Open Amateur class Michael Arranda took the win and championship after getting in the lead early. The Trialscross class came down to Emanuel Angius taking the win and championship.
The Ontario EnduroCross will air on CBS Sports Network on Saturday, December 5th at 11:00 PM ET. For more information, please visit www.CBSsportsnetwork.com.
