Muddy Creek Raceway Getting Facelift In Preparation For Red Bull Tennessee National On June 28

BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (Tuesday, April 22, 2014) – When it comes to making sure his facility is in prime condition, Sam Gammon doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty.

With the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship’s Red Bull Tennessee National just over two months away on June 28, Victory Sports’ Gammon, who runs Muddy Creek Raceway, has been busy moving dirt. How much dirt?

“We’ve hauled over 1,200 tons just in a few days,” said Gammon. “All those storms we had last year washed a lot of the dirt in the pond here on the property so we’re digging it out and putting it back on the track.

“A year ago our main project revolved around moving earth to make more flat parking areas before we hosted the first national event. This year the focus is on making everything better for the riders, as well as making the place more aesthetically pleasing.”
The pond on the Muddy Creek property holds the water that is used for spraying down the track. It had to be drained, then the process of digging it out began.

“We really hadn’t done anything like this in probably 10 years – and it’s never been this intense,” said Gammon. “Our next event here is June 7 so we had a window of about six weeks which gives us plenty of time to make changes to the pond area, dig the dirt out, replace it on the track and refill the pond.”

Gammon said the layout of the track wouldn’t change at all but that the work they’re doing now would make the 1.2-mile course better for the riders.

“The texture of the track will be much better than it was, which I know the riders will appreciate,” he said. “We’ll do this now and as we get closer to the Tennessee National, a professional track building team will come in and they’ll make a few changes and give it a bit of a facelift.

“Everybody’s goal is to have the best track we can have so that’s why we’re working on hard on it right now.”

The Red Bull Tennessee National will be broadcast live on both NBC and MAVTV.
