Press Release

Motocross Strategic Committee

VALKENSWAARD (THE NETHERLANDS), 05 April 2008 – After a meeting with representatives of the Japanese and European motorcycle industry, the FIM (the sanctioning body of the World Motorcycling Championships), Youthstream (the promoter of the FIM Motocross and SuperMoto World Championships) and MSMA (the Motorcycle Sport Manufacturers’ Association) they agreed to create a working group which will define the main guidelines of the future policies regarding Motocross.

Such group will be named the “Motocross Strategic Committee”, and will be chaired by current FIM/CMS President Dr. Wolfgang Srb. Members of the committee will be representatives of the FIM, Youthstream and MSMA willing to cooperate in order to direct the future of the sport towards new and important goals.

Sporting, technical, environmental, commercial and other aspects will be taken into consideration and developed by the Motocross Strategic Committee via mid and long term programs.

The establishment of such committee means a significant junction in between the sporting side and the marketing side of off road motorcycling, with the working group featuring representatives from different parties, all holding a positive intention to cooperate for the development of Motocross. Moreover the decision of investing in mid and long term programs confirms the strong belief in what the future can bring to the sport.

This cooperation can finally prepare the future of Motocross both on and off the track, for a global development of the sport.

“This is the biggest step since I have been involved with the FIM Motocross World Championship. Finally all the decision makers are very happy to sit together and work on our commune goal; the development of Motocross. The plan is to work on not only the evolution of regulations but also on the future market and strategies. We are proud that the first to benefit from this will be the riders, teams, organizers and fans,” Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo said.

“I am excited to work with such important partners for the future of Motocross,” said FIM/CMS President and Motocross Strategic Committee Chairman Dr. Wolfgang Srb.

Youthstream is the company that manages the exclusive television, marketing and promotional world wide rights of the FIM Motocross World Championship, the FIM Motocross of Nations, the FIM SuperMoto World Championship, the FIM SuperMoto of Nations, the FIM Snowcross World Championship, the UEM Motocross European Championship and the UEM SuperMoto European Championship.
