Moss and JDR Motorex KTM on track for Pro Lites MX Nationals title

JDR Motorex KTM’s Matt
Moss is on track to clinch his second career Pro Lites Australian Motocross
Championship following a hard-fought sixth position at Moree’s
penultimate round of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals on Sunday, 24
July.

The 2009 champion, in his
return to Australia during 2011, has been relentless in his pursuit of the
title, battling through a series of bad luck at Moree to maintain a
33-point advantage with just one round remaining.

Moss finished with 11-7-6-1 results on Sunday, bouncing
back in the final moto to pad his series lead, resulting in a confidence
booster heading into Coolum next weekend.

“I didn’t know what to expect coming into
today, because I’d never ridden at Moree before,” Moss
explained. “I got terrible starts all day and made a mistake while I
was leading moto one. I crashed again in the second and third motos, but in
the last one I got a decent start and was able to come away with the
win.

“Going into the last
round I have a 33-point lead, and I’ve always had good results at
Coolum. I’m stoked to go there and I can’t wait to try and have
some fun at that track. This championship has seemed like a never-ending
battle, that’s for sure.”

While Moss suffered a difficult day by his standards,
Queenslander Brenden Harrison managed to place his JDR Motorex KTM on the
podium in third place overall with 4-3-4-6 finishes at Moree. With his
podium, Harrison is now placed third in the standings.

“The Racesafe medical team helped me out so
much this weekend – I’ve been really sick, so it feels good to
finish on the podium and I have to thank the medical guys a lot,”
Harrison said. “My team was right behind me again so thanks to the
whole JDR Motorex KTM team as well. We’ll try to finish the year
strong at Coolum.”

Josh
Cachia scored victory in the opening race of the weekend on his way to
fifth overall. Cachia now sits seventh in the standings, continuing to
impress as last year’s Under 19s champion.

“I felt really confident in that first moto, rode my
own race and ended up getting a moto win,” Cachia commented.
“Heading into Coolum in the sand, I really enjoy those track
conditions, and hopefully I can finish out the year strong. A moto win and
podium finish for the last round would be nice!”

British contender Jamie Law was top KTM finisher in
the Pro Open category for Herb Watson Racing aboard a 350 SX-F, finishing
eighth overall for the weekend in Moree. Law was also credited top
privateer for the round.

“There’s been a lot of travelling coming over
here, but I’m enjoying it,” Law said. “It’s been a
lot to get used to, but I really enjoyed the Moree track and look forward
to next weekend.”

Western
Australian Champion Louis Calvin made his factory debut for JDR Motorex KTM
in place of injured regulars Ryan Marmont and Dan Reardon, finishing a
promising ninth overall despite just limited time to prepare on the factory
350 SX-F.

In the Under 19s
development category, Victorian teenager Dylan Long finished second overall
in his best performance of the season for Top Gear KTM. Former 85cc Junior
World Champion Jay Wilson was a solid sixth on his Coastal KTM 250
SX-F.

The season finale will be
held at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland next weekend, 30-31
July.
