Monster Energy® Supercross Interview: Jason Weigandt, play-by-play host of Supercross LIVE! Presented by Parts Unlimited

AURORA, Ill. (January 17, 2009) – As Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, heads back at Angel Stadium Saturday night, fans from around the world can follow this epic season via Supercross LIVE! presented by Parts Unlimited. We caught up with Supercross LIVE! host Jason Weigandt to discuss the audio webcast as well as the benefits that are available to the fans of Monster Energy® Supercross.

SupercrossOnline.com: Supercross LIVE! presented by Parts Unlimited is back, how did it go at Chase Field?

Weigandt: It was awesome, really. In fact, it felt like we had never left. Our whole crew had gone to Anaheim 1 anyway to put our video clips together for SupercrossOnline.com, so we were able to jump into round two without missing a beat. And of course, it never hurts to have some good racing to call - with James Stewart and Chad Reed pushing each other for all 20 laps in the main, we definitely had good material to work with. If you loved the old show, you’ll love the new one, because it’s really the exact same show with some additional features and interviews!

SupercrossOnline.com: What is the benefit of fans buying the full season package?

Weigandt: It’s much cheaper to buy the whole season than just an individual race, and anyone that travels with me knows how pumped I am about saving money. The $39.99 season package actually comes out to $2.66 per race for the season, which is consistent with most major audio webcasts. Also, you get unlimited access to the archives. I think a lot of people forget about all of the exclusive interviews we have on the show. Even if you go to a race in person, it’s worth checking the archive when you get home because we are always getting good scoops and behind-the-scenes interviews during our pre-show. We also talk to the top three riders from the floor as soon as the podium celebration is done, and the only way you get to hear those interviews is by listening to the show.

SupercrossOnline.com: You get to work with Jim Holley, how enjoyable is it to work with someone so knowledgeable about the sport?

Weigandt: To tell you the truth, it’s not enjoyable at all. Just kidding! Jim is the perfect man for the job here, because there is absolutely no topic I can come up with that he can’t break down for us. I’ve never been able to stump him, and when you’re trying to figure out what’s going on down on the track, it’s great to know Jim will always have my back. If I ask him a question, I don’t think it’s possible for him to say “I don’t know.” Also, Jim is a hilarious guy to work with, both on and off the air. Let’s leave it at that!

SupercrossOnline.com: What are some of the emerging storylines you to will cover this weekend?

Weigandt: How long can this answer be? There’s a lot going on now, first with Reed and Stewart, but also with the amazing early season races of Josh Grant. Then you have Ryan Villopoto trying to get his 450 legs underneath him, and along the way he seems to have rekindled his old rivalry with Mike Alessi. A little extra racing drama makes for good live radio. Plus, the Lites class is totally unpredictable with Jason Lawrence and Trey Canard way back, and the Kawasaki and KTM boys battling with Dungey. But that’s just the start. We know a lot of friends, family and fans of individual riders are listening to the show, so we cover everyone, not just the riders that hit the podium.

SupercrossOnline.com: What is your best experience working on Supercross LIVE?

Weigandt: I think it relates back to the end of the previous answer. What I’ve found over the years is that this show is the world’s only live link to what’s happening on the track. A lot of people listen to hear about the biggest stars and who wins the race, but we also have a lot of moms and dads, wives, sisters and brothers of the racers listening in. We'll see those people in the pits and they tell us how important this show is to them. For example, Chad Reed’s parents work their Sundays around listening to our show back in Australia. We take a lot of pride in that, but there’s also a lot of pressure to keep track of all of those riders. When we see the fans or the family members at the races and they thank us - that takes the pressure off. We know they appreciate what we do. And also, I’ve been a supercross fan my entire life..I can’t think of anything better to do than come to the races every weekend and let all of the other fans know what is happening…live!

SupercrossOnline.com: Thanks Weege, look forward to listening live from Anaheim!
