Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki takes 3 out of 4 at Chilliwack

Hoyer wins Open class title

Kamloops, BC (January 12, 2009) With one final weekend of racing left in the Nex-Trax Canadian Arenacross Championships the Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki team came in expecting the unexpected.

Leading Edge rider and series points leader, Teddy Maier, suffered a broken leg two weeks before the race, throwing the points chase wide open and sending the team looking for a replacement rider. Jeremy Medaglia, from Kemptville, Ontario was able to fill in for the weekend on the Team's 2009 Kawasaki KX250F. Medaglia, who won one round and finished 5th overall during last summer's CMRC MX2 National Championships is considered one of Canada's fastest rising stars and wasted no time showing his promise. The 18 year old, who had never competed in an arenacross race before won both his qualifiers on Friday night before continuing his sweep through the main events, taking the wins in both the Lites and Open main events. Said Medaglia, "The whole weekend went great, even though I'd never raced arenacross before I had a lot of fun. It was really easy to adapt to the bike and the team treated me great. I'd love to come back and race at Chilliwack again if I get the chance."

For night two, Williams Lake's Brock Hoyer took over flying the mantle for the Leading Edge team. After finishing second to his teammate Medaglia in both races on Friday, he stared off Saturday night by winning the Head to Head race, then put himself on the podium in the Lites main with another second place finish. He saved the best for last though in the Open main. After a brief battle with Ryan Lockhart for the lead, Hoyer got by and pushed hard, taking the win over his teammate Medaglia. The win also clinched the Open class championship for Hoyer. Said Hoyer, "I'm super happy how my weekend went. I felt I rode the best I have all series which is great considering I haven't been able to practice at all with all the snow we've had at home. The win gives me a lot of confidence coming into the new season, I know I can take my riding to new levels for 2009."
