Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki Grabs Two Out of Three Podium Positions at Ste-Thecle

Teddy Maier grabs more valuable points in hunt for MX2 Championship

Kamloops, B.C.(July 27, 2009) The 2009 Monster Energy CMRC National Motocross Series made a stop at a new venue this past weekend. The Quebec round, in the tiny community of Ste-Thecle hosted the series for the first time and heavy rains would put a dramatic stamp on the weekend.

Brock Hoyer grabbed his first career podium at Ste-Thecle with a second.

Sunday morning dawned with gray skies and light rain but by the time the first moto kicked off at noon it had transitioned to a full on down pour. Luckily for the Leading Edge team, the riders are no stranger to riding in wet conditions and Brock Hoyer rounded the first turn ahead of the pack, grabbing the holeshot and the early lead with his teammate, Nick Evennou, in close pursuit. The two Kawasaki mounted riders began to distance themselves from the pack on their KX250F's while Teddy Maier was safely in the top 10 and keeping a firm grasp on his points lead. Evennou would eventually get around his teammate and into the lead but mud has a habit of keeping you on your toes and he made a mistake and went down, handing the lead back to Hoyer. Hoyer would eventually also make a mistake and wash out but he remounted to stay in second and take his first career podium, the highlight of his motocross career so far. Evennou worked his way back up to take the third and final podium spot. Meanwhile, Maier rode to a safe and consistent sixth place finish and gained more points on his rival, Eric Nye, who finished way back in 17th.

With the rains refusing to relent, the decision was made by the CMRC to cancel the second motos and the first moto scores would stand as the overall. This gave the Leading Edge team two out of three possible podium spots and the team is now a perfect six for six when it comes to placing riders on the podium in this 2009 season. It also moved both Evennou and Hoyer up the leader board into the 7th and 8th spots, respectively. Maier also extended his points lead in the class, he now sits 17pts clear of second in the chase for the championship with three rounds remaining.

The series now moves to the east coast for the River Glade National in Moncton, New Brunswick. Teddy Maier will be looking to extend his points lead while Nick Evennou, who won the Moncton round in 2007, will be looking to return to the top of the podium for the first time in 2009.
