Press Release

Teddy Maier increases lead atop MX2 leader board

Kamloops, B.C. (Aug 10, 2009) Sand Del Lee MX track in Munster, Ontario was the setting for this past weekend's penultimate round of the 2009 CMRC Nationals and the Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki team came into the weekend looking to maintain their grip atop the MX2 Championship with Teddy Maier. For the Iowa native, a safe, conservative ride netted him with fourth overall and even more points on his main rival, Eric Nye.

After a solid top 5 qualifying time, Maier got a mid pack start and began a charge for the front of the pack. By the mid way point he had hooked up with the top 3 group and the four riders put on a brilliant battle, swapping positions back and fourth. In the end, Maier ended up fourth and gained a few more points in his hunt for the championship. Meanwhile, Brock Hoyer had gone down in a first turn crash and put on a brilliant charge for the front, working his way all the way from last to 11th. The teams third rider, Nick Evennou, also was forced to put on a comeback ride after crashing while running third. He managed to work his way up to finish right behind his teammate, Hoyer, in the number 12 spot.

For the second moto, Brock Hoyer avoided a first turn crash this time to grab the holeshot and the early lead. Behind him, Maier was on the move again and resumed the four rider battle from the first moto. This time, he was able to pass Kyle Beaton to grab third and the final spot on the podium. His 4-3 moto scores gave him fourth overall on the day and another nine points in his lead in the championship. With one round remaining and a 28 point lead, things are looking good for Maier to claim his first ever Canadian championship, a testament to his and the teams hard work this season.

Now the team heads to Walton, Ontario for the Walton Trans-Can and the final round of the 2009 season. With all three riders inside the top 10 in points it's been a great year for the team and hopes are high that all three riders can go out with a bang. The team is working hard to clinch their first CMRC Championship.
