Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki Battles the Sands of Gopher Dunes

Kamloops, BC (June 2, 2008) Last weekend the Monster Energy/Thor/Leading Edge Kawasaki team made their way to the deep sands of the Gopher Dunes circuit in Courtland, Ontario for Round 2 of the CMRC Nationals looking to build on their successful 1-2 finish the previous weekend at Ste. Julie.

The always challenging sand certainly made things interesting for the team. After turning the fastest lap times during Saturday's practice, Nick Evennou was looking to keep the team's winning streak alive and despite hitting a downed rider on the first lap of the moto still managed to work his way back to third at the checkered flag. The podium finish meant that Evennou would inherit the points lead over his teammate, Teddy Maier who put on a valiant effort in the moto, working his way up to nineteenth after a first lap crash left him in last place. Maier turned the third fastest lap of the moto as he worked his way through the pack, securing 2 valuable points in the championship chase. The team's third rider, Brock Hoyer, also had a crash to contend with and managed to charge all the way up to fourteenth at the finish.

The second moto started off well again for the points leader, Evennou, but things would go take a turn for the worse a few laps in. While battling with the front runners, Nick collided with another rider in the air, launching himself over the bars upon landing. The impact damaged his bike and his body enough to cause an end to his day but he walked away under his own power and will be a hundred percent coming into the next round at Morden. His 3-DNF scores still gave him eighth overall for the day. Teddy Maier managed a better start in the second moto and rode a solid race, finishing in the fifth position at the checkers. Maier's 19-5 finishes gave him twelfth overall on the day. Brock Hoyer had to again recover from a mid pack start and managed to improve his finish one spot to finish thirteenth. His 14-13 moto finishes gave him sixteenth on the day.

With a two week break upon them, the Leading Edge team will now make their way to the more familiar western tracks with Evennou and Maier holding the second and third positions in the Championship and will be looking to keep their KX250F's at the front of the pack.
