Monster Energy® Supercross Awards Ceremony Returns to Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino

AURORA, Ill. (April 28, 2008) – Once the 2008 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, has wrapped up this Saturday and the champions have been decided, the sport’s attention will turn to the Theater of Performing Arts at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino for the season-ending 2008 Supercross Awards Ceremony on Sunday, May 4.

Series producer Live Nation Motor Sports, Inc., brings this gala event back to Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino for the second-consecutive year and its’ beautifully appointed Theatre of Performing Arts, which provides a wonderful backdrop to award the champions.

“This year’s awards ceremony will put the finishing touches on another great and exciting season of racing in Monster Energy® Supercross,” said Todd Jendro, sr. director of supercross, Live Nation Motor Sports, Inc. “Planet Hollywood is such a fine venue, as we experienced last year. The Monster Energy® Supercross Awards Ceremony has become an event all its own, where the riders, teams and sponsors can dress up, have fun and share memories of another season of racing.”

Torco Fuels Honda’s Trey Canard clinched his first-ever Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites class championship as a rookie and will formally honor his championship on May 4.

The remaining championship in the AMA Supercross class is down to a two-man battle. Yamaha’s Chad Reed, who holds a 10-point lead going into Sam Boyd Stadium, will have to hold off the late charge of Honda’s Kevin Windham, Centreville, Miss., as he attempts to ride out the season with a cracked shoulder blade.

Yamaha’s Jason Lawrence, of Carlsbad, Calif., won the Western Regional AMA Supercross Lites clas championship last Saturday at Seattle’s Qwest Field.

There are a host of other awards that will be announced on Sunday night, including Team Manager of the Year; Comeback of the Year; Walker Garrison Lifetime Achievement Award; and the Mechanic of the Year, which awards the series top mechanic with a 2007 Toyota Tundra.
