Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki 250SX Class Riders Converge in Las Vegas for Monster Energy Supercross Finale

CORONA , Calif. (May 3, 2013) – After 16 weekends of world-class competition, the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season will come to a close this weekend with a full slate of action from Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium. Saturday night’s showcase of the fastest riders on the planet is a special one, as both the Eastern and Western Regional 250SX Class Championships will be decided over the course of the final two 15-lap main events of the season. Once the champions are crowned, it will give way to the highly anticipated East/West Shootout, pitting the fastest riders from each region head-to-head for 10 laps to determine a winner. Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki will bring its talented lineup of Martin Davalos, Tyla Rattray, and Tyler Bowers into Las Vegas with hopes of hitting the jackpot.

Davalos in Search of Big Things in Vegas
Davalos’ first season with Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki has been one of the veteran rider’s best. While he is still in search of his first main event win, Davalos has shown impressive speed and exceptional resiliency this season en route to five heat race wins and three main event podium results. Las Vegas will be the final opportunity for Davalos to find even more success and following a third-place finish and dominant heat race one week ago, he knows he has what it takes to step up his intensity and challenge for victory in both the Western Regional finale and the Shootout.

“I’m happy with how the year has gone, but I really want to get a win before it’s over,” said Davalos. “The opportunity to race for Mitch Payton and Pro Circuit has been amazing and we’ve shown we have what it takes to succeed. Now its up to me to push that little bit extra and hopefully end on a high note.”

Currently occupying fifth in the Western Regional Championship, Davalos sits just 10 points out of fourth place.

Rattray Determined to Make a Statement

If not for some early misfortune in the main event one week ago, Rattray could very well have been in the hunt for a spot on the podium. The South African has stepped up since returning from the midseason break and would like nothing more than a podium finish to wrap up the season. As a former World Champion, Rattray knows better than most of his counterparts what it takes to succeed when the pressure is on.

“I’m definitely putting some more pressure on myself this weekend because I know I can get up to the front and battle for a spot on the podium,” said Rattray. “I’m happy with the improvements we’ve made since coming back and I feel more comfortable on the bike now than I have all season, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Rattray currently sits in a three-way tie for eighth in the Western Regional Championship, just nine points out of seventh.

Bowers Making the Most of a Golden Opportunity

Just a couple weeks after capturing his third consecutive AMA Arenacross title, Bowers received the call from Mitch Payton to become a part of Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki as a fill-in rider for injured riders Dean Wilson and Justin Hill. In just two races with the team, Bowers has become a consistent threat to land on the podium, finishing fourth in his first outing in Houston and battling for third the following weekend in Minneapolis en route to a fifth-place result. With two strong races under his belt, the no-pressure nature of Bowers’ opportunity at Pro Circuit has him eagerly waiting to turn some heads in Las Vegas and bring an already memorable season to an even better conclusion.

“This has been such a great opportunity and the chance to be able to race in Vegas is something I never thought would be possible,” said Bowers. “I just want to go out there, have a good time, and race the way I know how to. If I do all those things, I should be able to challenge at the front and who knows what could come of that.”

Bowers currently sits 21st in the Eastern Regional Championship and only the top 20 riders in the standings are invited to Las Vegas. However, due to injuries to several riders ahead of him in the points, Bowers earned the opportunity to compete one final time in 2013.
