Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Moncton Race Report

Teddy
Maier remains in title contention with moto win at Riverglade

Kamloops,
B.C.
(Aug 2, 2010)
The
series made it's annual stop on the east coast this weekend as round
seven of the Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals made
it's way to Moncton, New Brunswick's Riverglade Motorsports Park.
With one of the biggest and most enthusiastic crowds of the entire
series and the points chase tightening up after last weekend's DNF by
points leader, Tyler Medaglia, the stage was set for an epic battle
among MX2 contenders.

Defending champion Teddy Maier of Fort Dodge, Iowa came into the
weekend trailing points leader Medaglia by only 14 points but with
just three rounds remaining time is of the essence to close things
up. He kicked things off on the right foot by getting a good start
and passing early leader Kaven Benoit. After making his way to the
front of the field, Maier reeled out his lead, taking the win and a
valuable three points in the title hunt. Things were looking good
again in the second moto as Maier was sitting in second and looking
to pass Medaglia who had the lead but unfortunately a slight mistake
proved costly as he stalled his machine in a tricky corner. In a
championship saving effort, though, Maier managed to re-light his
bike and put on an amazing charge, passing riders all the way till he
was back up to second again. Medaglia was able to hold on for the win
so the two tied on points for the day but with four motos left,
anything can still happen.

Said Maier of his day, “Man, after that first moto I was sure that
today was going to be my day but I made a little mistake in moto two
and it bit me. Luckily I've got a great bike and I was able to charge
all the way back to second and not lose any points to Medaglia. We've
still got two races left and I'm going to just keep trying to put my
Kawasaki in the winners circle and see how the chips fall.”

With
Shawn Rife out with an injury the team brought in Daniel Blair to
ride for the team in Rife's absence. The California native did a
great job, riding to 6-8 moto scores for 7
th
overall in his first Canadian National appearance. The team's third
rider, Spencer Knowles of New Westminster, British Columbia came in
close behind, finishing 9
th
overall on the strength of 10-9 moto finishes.

With
Riverglade in the books, the series now heads to the Sand Del Lee MX
facility near our Nations capital of Ottawa for the penultimate round
of the series. With only four motos left, Maier and the rest of the
Leading Edge team will be laying it all on the line in the quest for
the team's second consecutive MX2 Championship. For more information
