Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Comes Through With Another Double Podium Performance at Sand Del Lee

Goerke, Sjoberg, Maier
and Politelli all make podium appearances at race near Nation’s
capital

Kamloops, BC(August 8, 2011) Hot
off another week the weekend before at Moncton, the Monster Energy
Leading Edge Kawasaki team came into the penultimate round of the
2011 Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross National series looking
to keep their momentum rolling and rolling they did, as the team
placed all four riders on the podium over the course of the racing
day.

Qualifying started off well, as last
week’s MX2 winner, Tyler Sjoberg, logged the second quickest time
while Austin Politelli, who flew in last minute after spending the
week in Tennessee racing at the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National
Championships, qualified in the number five position. Meanwhile in
the MX1 class, Teddy Maier and Matt Goerke qualified in the second
and third positions, respectively to ensure great gate picks for the
ensuing motos.

The start of the first MX2 moto saw the
Leading Edge duo grab great starts and quickly Sjoberg and Politelli
were battling back and forth for second place. The two Kawasaki
teammates raced hard but clean and eventually Sjoberg would lead the
pair across in second and third, respectively, for another double
trip to the podium for the team. Moto two saw more of the same as
again the pair were battling for a podium position but unfortunately,
this time Politelli would go down and remount to finish ninth.
Sjoberg would finish the moto in fourth and combined with his second
in moto would finish third overall for his third straight podium
finish.

In MX1 action, Teddy Maier started
things off with a bang for the team, grabbing the first moto holeshot
and the early lead. He rode strong all moto to take third place by
the checkered flag. Behind him, Matt Goerke, was making a move
towards the front but unfortunately tipped over and have to work his
way back up to fifth by the checkered flag. Maier grabbed another
great start in moto two, narrowly losing out on the holeshot to
Colton Facciotti but again being right in the lead mix from the
get-go. Maier would battle with his teammate Goerke but Goerke would
get by, only to fall while making a pass for second. Remounting, the
Florida native cut back through the pack with precision, working all
the way back up to second again by the checkered flag to take a hard
fought second overall on the day.

With one round remaining, it’s Maier
who finds himself best positioned as the 2008 MX2 champion finds
himself in third place in the championship in his maiden year in the
MX1 class, while Goerke, who’s come on strong in the second half of
the season now sits in fifth. The MX2 class finds the Leading Edge
riders in an almost identical situation as Politelli sits in third
place and Sjoberg occupies the number five spot.

The series now takes a one-week break
before resuming with the final round of the 2011 Monster Energy
Canadian National season on August 14th at Walton,
Ontario’s Walton Raceway. For more information on the Monster
