Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki Caps Off Historic Season with Two More Wins

Goerke, Maier are 2012 Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross Champions

Kamloops, BC(August 21, 2012) The final round of the 2012 Monster Energy CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals took place this past weekend at Walton, Ontario’s Walton Raceway and with Matt Goerke already clinching the team’s first ever MX1 championship the week before at Sand Del Lee, a little consistent riding was all that was needed for Teddy Maier to make it a clean sweep for the team as he turned 2-2 moto scores into the overall win in the MX2 class and his second MX2 championship. Even though Goerke had already been crowned MX1 champ, he went out and put in another dominating performance to take his 7th win in the 9 round series.

Starting with MX2, Iowa native, Maier, came into the final round sporting a 19 point lead over his nearest competitor so he only need to stay out of trouble to lock up his second MX2 title. He turned solid starts into a pair of second place finishes, which were good enough for the overall win. Maier was pretty ecstatic about his second Canadian title: “When I dropped back down to the MX2 class this year I knew that my goal was nothing less than a championship and I’m glad I could ride great all year and have an amazing team behind me to make it happen. I’m glad I could get it done for everyone that has put so much hard work into making this happen.”

With the MX2 title wrapped up for the year, it was time to see if Goerke could cap off his incredible run through the 2012 season with one final win and he made sure that would be the case by working his way into the lead and riding off to his 16th moto win out of 18 motos and his 7th overall win out of the 9 round series. For Goerke, it was redemption after a trying inaugural season in Canada last year: “Last year, with my wrist injury, I could barely hang on to the bike coming into the season so I’m glad I could come into 2012 totally healthy and show everyone what I could do. It feels great to get this title and the team has been top notch all season. I couldn’t have done it without them!”

On top of the two titles, it was a successful debut pro season for Tyler Villopoto as the younger brother of AMA Supercross and National Champion, Ryan, was impressive in his rookie year, jumping straight into the premier MX1 class and finishing the season in 5th overall.

Leading Edge owner, Jason Hughes, was happy to see everyone’s hard work pay off: “When we, along with Monster Energy, decided to jump into the MX1 class we knew that we couldn’t settle for anything less than a championship level effort and I’m so happy that we could achieve success so quickly. This year has been incredible and I can’t wait to continue the success on into the future.”

The team now shifts their preparation to the upcoming Montreal Supercross, on September 29th at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium, as Goerke gets ready to defend his 2011 win.
