Monster Energy Kawasaki's James Stewart Extends Points Lead And Villopoto Takes Home Another Victory

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (January 27, 2007) – Monster Energy Kawasaki came out swinging at AT&T Park for the fourth round of the Amp’d Moblie AMA Supercross Series.  Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto lead the charge with his third AMA Supercross Lites victory while Monster Energy Kawasaki’s James Stewart stretched his points lead with a solid second-place finish.

Villopoto kept Kawasaki’s amazing streak alive with another impressive ride, winning the main event by nearly seven seconds. He now takes a comfortable 26-point lead into next Saturday’s race at Anaheim.

“It was hard to try and ride fast, but you have to take your time and still try to go the speed you want to go without making mistakes,” said Villopoto, referring to the slippery track left behind by the wet and rainy conditions. “That’s what made the track so technical; I guess I did it well.”

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki teammate Christopher Gosselaar was off to a great start after gaining the holeshot to start the main. He was running strong in second place before a crash in the early stages ended his night. Gosselaar was sent to the hospital for further evaluation.

In AMA Supercross competition, Stewart overcame a crash and then fought his way through lapped traffic for the entire second half of the race, still coming close to picking up the victory. He leaves San Francisco in control of the points and leads both the AMA Supercross and World GP standings.

Monster Energy Kawasaki teammate Timmy Ferry posted another strong fourth-place finish and continued his string of consistent rides. “I tried to stay calm, it seemed like a lot of the guys around me were making mistakes and crashing,” said Ferry. “I took my time and I felt that it made me faster. Then I just picked guys off.”

Motosport Kawasaki’s Steve Boniface kept his momentum going with a seventh place finish at AT&T Park, while securing the fourth position in the AMA Supercross Lites point standings.

Jeff Gibson rode to a ninth place finish and put his Cernic’s Kawasaki in tenth place in the World GP point standings.
