Payson, UT (Jan. 31, 2017) – The Monster Energy Supercross season headed to the University of Phoenix Stadium in the Phoenix community of Glendale, AZ , for round four of the 2017 season. With the GEAR Alloy Wheels Tundra on display in the team pits, Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS riders Davi Millsaps and Blake Baggett came in with speed, as Baggett scored the fastest qualifying time and a 7th place finish, while Millsaps scored his first top-five finish of the season in 5th place.

Rider Reports

Davi Millsaps

Davi Millsaps was on the gas from the beginning of the day as he laid down the 3rd fastest qualifying time. He then came into the heat race with confidence and put the power down on to the Arizona dirt, finding himself in a fierce battle for the lead early in the race. Riding with vigor, Davi would make the pass for the lead and never look back. The superior traction of the Dunlop tires on the slick track helped him build a size-able lead on the rest of the field, eventually taking his second heat race win of the season and a spot in the main event.

Using his excellent gate pick, Millsaps once again used the power of his KTM to round the first corner inside the top five. He found himself in a heated battle, sliding back one position to 6th. Not allowing the competition to slow him down, Millsaps rode at a furious pace, making the pass to put him back into the top five. At the end, he was rewarded with a 5th place finish for his efforts and moved himself into 5th place in championship points.

“I felt good out there tonight,” said Millsaps. “My heat race was good, and I had a chance at the holeshot in the main event. We are going in the right direction with the bike and my confidence level. I’m pumped and ready to get on the podium in Oakland.”

Blake Baggett

Blake Baggett got a handle on the Phoenix track early on, finding the speed to claim the fastest qualifying time of the day, putting his Team RMATVMC-WPS-KTM bike on the top spot with a 59.6 sec. lap time. Not letting off, Baggett continued to show his speed in his heat race as he rounded the first turn in the third position. He was pressured by points leader Ryan Dungey mid-race, ultimately holding off his charge to finish 3rd.
With a solid gate pick for the main event, Baggett launched himself out of the gate and rounded the first turn inside the front of the pack. He would follow his teammate through the field, using his Scott Prospect goggles to give him a clear view of the deteriorating track. Baggett rode solid, holding his own for the remainder of the race. Thanks to 4Arm Strong, he was able to ride the pace through the main and take the checkered flag in 7th position, moving him up to 14th in championship points.

“Tonight was solid,” said Baggett. “The track was my style, and I had fun out there. We are going in the right direction with the bike, and I am riding where I should be. We will make a few changes and come out even stronger in Oakland.”
