Max Anstie Makes Glen Helen Pro Debut With Boost/ampm/Monster/Troy-JLaw Racing Team

The UK’s Anstie will be joined by amateur racer Christian Craig at part of the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing team

CARLSBAD, Calif., (May 20, 2009) – The highly-anticipated pro debut of former amateur standout Max Anstie will take place with the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing team as Anstie joins owner Jason Lawrence’s squad to contest the 2009 AMA MX Lites class beginning this weekend with the Glen Helen (San Bernardino, Calif.) opening round of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships.

Running a KTM Lites class bike with full Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing graphics (Anstie will run a orange front fender vs. JLaw & Nick Wey’s white front fender), Anstie is looking forward to graduating to the pro ranks under the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing awning this weekend.

“I’m pumped to get this started,” he said. “Something I’ve worked for my entire life and it feels good to be leaving the amateur stuff behind in order to concentrate at a professional level with professional races and professional rules.”

Anstie, who just turned 16 in April, is the son of former British MX champion and Czech MXGP winner Mervyn Anstie. A UK native with American MX lineage, Anstie has won multiple European championships (UK, Dutch & Bercy, France titles) and developed a solid rivalry with fellow Monster Energy-backed racer Dean Wilson. Training with top international stars Tyla Rattray (Monster Energy) and Tommy Searle, Anstie raced three years of amateurs here in the States and is planning on racing two years in the pro ranks before returning to Europe.

Also joining JLaw, Wey and Anstie with Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing at the Glen Helen opener – and contesting Friday’s Pro/Am Sport class – will be Christian Craig. The son of former pro MX/SX great Mike Craig, plans thus far for the 18-year-old SoCal native will be for him to retain his amateur racing status throughout the summer, culminating with a run at the Loretta’s Pro-Am Sport class title. If all goes as planned, Craig will then finishing out with the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing team as a pro at the remainder of the Nationals.

“It’s going to be cool to team up with Jason and those guys,” said Craig. “I’ll race amateurs on Friday at Glen Helen, then check out how things are run with the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing team on Saturday. We’ll continue to race all the major amateur events around the country this summer, then join back up with the team after Loretta’s at Unadilla for my first pro Lites race.”

A SoCal native who’s done some MX training in Louisiana, Craig’s been backed by Monster Energy for some three years now and is comfortable with the Yamaha brand – having raced YZs his entire career, including the top amateur level for the past four years.

First up for the Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy-JLaw Racing team is this weekend’s Glen Helen opener, round one of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships.
