Press Release

MX Celebrities to Honor Marty Smith

San Bernardino, CA - October 24, 2012: The excitement continues to build for the upcoming 2012 World Vet MX Championships November 3-4 at Glen Helen Raceway! A major part of the event is the annual presentation of the Edison Dye Motocross Lifetime Achievement Award, this year going to Honda MX legend Marty Smith! Breaking news includes the naming of presenters Charlie Beck and Dave Arnold, who will each present anecdotes about Marty’s stellar career. Beck, who is known outside of the motocross arena as the current Los Angeles Chief of Police, is a longtime motocross racer and enthusiast (over 30 years!) and has followed Marty’s career from its onset. Dave Arnold needs no introduction. . . he has been associated with Honda Racing since the 1970s, as a mechanic for Marty and later in management positions for Honda. Dave will also be bringing Marty’s 1975 championship-winning 125cc factory racer as well as the RC400 that Marty rode to the 1977 500cc AMA Championship.

These two motorcycles will highlight a Marty Smith display, conceived and set up by Tom White, curator of the Early Years of Motocross Museum, and will include photos and memorabilia related to Marty from the museum. Following the presentation, which will be on Sunday, November 4th around 12 noon, will be an autograph session. The first lucky 100 fans in line will receive a limited edition art poster of Marty, signed by Marty himself as well as the other stars in attendance. They include Chief Beck, Sue Fish (AMA Class of 2012 Inductee), Gary Jones, Chuck Sun, Broc Glover, and others!

The MTA World Vet Motocross Championship racing will be all weekend, with the 40+ Pro race highlighting the Saturday races and the 30+ Pro Race highlighting Sunday’s racing. Each of these classes feature a $4000 purse, which means the racing will be fast and fierce! Whether you are a spectator or competitor, this is a weekend you will not want to miss!
