MUNN RACING / ANKLE SAVERS / KTM powered by EBR PERFORMANCE: Season Review
The MUNN RACING /ANKLE SAVERS / KTM powered by EBR PERFORMANCE team came into 2012 with one goal: To learn, progress and represent the sponsors in a professional way.
Munn Racing would like to give a big thank you to all of the team members that worked hard each and every weekend to help make the team a success: Big Dan for believing in the program with Chip. Tim Slayton for driving the truck, cooking the meals, and always being a team player. Josh Rogers of EBR Performance. Team Manager Tom Crain. Team crew members-Tyler Anderson,Mikhail Robinson, “Mustache” Matt Cuningham, Eric Gillen, OJ Randall, Rich and Brandon Tucker as well as the whole Tucker family, and Blue Diamond MX in Delaware.
Team owner, Chip Munn runs an operation that is driven by hard-work, loyalty, and honest support to the whole motocross community. The only expectation put on the riders was to be a team player, give 100%, and make the Main Events. The original plan was to contest the East Coast SX series with a two man team of Lance Vincent and Sean Hackley. That idea soon grew to Tevin Tapia on the West Coast Lites class as well as Tevin riding the KTM 350SXF on the East Coast rounds. The team also had guest appearances by #285 Tony Archer at a few rounds.
#55 Lance Vincent started out the SX season with a splash. Getting his usual good starts put him at the front of the class on many occasions. An injury early in the season put Lance on the sidelines for the remainder of the year. Look for the #55 back on the track soon!
#99 Sean Hackley had a tough year with injuries, but managed to score points in Supercross and Motocross. The RedBud National was his strongest showing with a 16th in the first moto. Although injuries put a damper on his season we look for Hackley to be back up front where he belongs with the talent and speed we know he has.
#211 Tevin Tapia received a lot of network television air time as well as appearing on Alli Sports and other media outlets. The highlight of his outdoor season was qualifying for every event and he scored enough points to earn a two digit national number for 2013.
#40 Gannon Audette was a standout amateur rider at the Loretta Lynn's Amateur National and earned National number 40 in 2011. After missing the whole Supercross season and half of the Nationals with a wrist injury, Audette returned to action at the Budds Creek National in Maryland. Jumping into a professional series halfway through the season isn't an easy feat, but Gannon showed a lot of promise by qualifying for 7 of the 8 final Nationals of the 2012 season.
Throughout the season we had a few riders suffer injuries and fill in riders were sought after to fill the vacant rides on the Munn Racing / Ankle Savers / KTM Powered by EBR Performance team. #85 Robby Marshall from Massachusetts was brought on to contest the last four Nationals, starting at his home track Southwick. Marshall delivered at Southwick with a fourth in the first moto!Shane Sewell was a surprise rider for the team and had a great Supercross season making 6 out of 9 main events and finished 13th overall in the East Coast Lites Supercross Series. We gave the call to #532 Ricky Renner to ride the KTM 450 towards the end of the Nationals. Renner qualified on the big thumper and put the team into the show. Also, on the team throughout the outdoor season were Todd Krieg #531and South African Kerim Fitzgerald #884 who both rode at select rounds.
In the Women's class, Sara Pettersson of Sweden represented the Munn Racing / Ankle Savers / KTM powered by EBR PERFORMANCE Team and delivered the team's first Professional Podium at the RedBud National, with a third overall for the day. Pettersson finished the series just outside of the top five with 6th overall and has a promising future in the sport. Look for Petterson to contest for wins in the 2013 season and be in contention for the WMX Championship.
MUNN RACING / ANKLE SAVERS / KTM powered by EBR PERFORMANCE team supported a large number of riders during the course of the 2012 season. For 2013, the team has big plans to hire talented riders, increase media exposure by adding social networking, weekly videos and photos, team interviews, and new unique ways to get the fans involved with the team. There will also be a Supercross team tryout planned for October 27/28 and is open to any pro rider at Three Palms MX Park – www.threepalmsesp.com. The whole event will have media exposure and the fans will be able to vote on who they think deserves the spots on the team. Any rider interested please contact Munn Racing KTM @ 254-829-004, email chip@munnracing.com, Also look for updates on Twitter and Facebook concerning the upcoming 2013 season.
