MDK/Media Zone/Warthog Racing Rolls at Red Bud

Round VI of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship got under way this past weekend at Red Bud MX in Buchanan, MI.

The track was gorgeous and the weather was a perfect 10. MDK/Media Zone/Warthog Racing pulled in with nine riders on a mission to prove that privateers can excel.

Saturday’s timed practice saw Alessi, Blose, Lewis, Chatfield, Bright, and Rookstool transfer directly into the MX Motos with Smith, Stella, and Honberger going to the consolation race. Stella jumped out to the holeshot in the Lites race but a mid-race bobble left him in 3rd at the finish. To end the evening a magnificent fireworks display kept everyone entertained until midnight.

In MX Moto One, on lap one Alessi was in 10th, Rookstool 14th, Blose 19th, Lewis 20th, Chatfield 22nd, and Bright 33rd. The entire group collectively made a push towards the front at the halfway point with Alessi in 8th, Rookstool 14th, Blose out after tangling with Hamblin, Lewis 15th, Chatfield 23rd, and Bright 19th. Rookstool and Lewis were pulling each other through the pack until a mechanical failure at the 25 min mark sent Lewis to the pits. Alessi pushed forward and finished in 7th. Rookstool finished close behind in 11th, Bright in 18th, and Chatfield a respectable 23rd.

Alessi got a great start in MX Moto Two and rode strong to a 9th place finish. His 7-9 finishes placed him in 6th overall. This result is the best of his career and earned him the team’s “Ride Smooth” Award for the week as well as Monster Energy Top Privateer honors and a check for $2000. Alessi is the Team’s leader and currently sits 8th place in the points with 120 total and 6 rounds remaining.

The team would like to wish Adam Chatfield and Mike Alessi speedy recoveries.
