Legends & Heroes Tour to Honor 2-Time National 125cc Champion,
Steve Lamson at Cowboys Stadium!
February 14, 2012 ~ Merced, CA:
Two-Time National 125cc AMA Motocross Champion, Steve Lamson, is one of
the most talented riders of Motocross, Supercross and currently the
team manager for Team Tedder.
For his career accomplishments on and off the track, he’s being honored
this Saturday, February 18, 2012 during round seven of the 2012 Monster
Energy AMA Supercross series at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington Texas.
Steve
Lamson started his racing career in 1980 on a YZ 80 at the age of ten.
Steve’s hero at that time was Danny “Magoo” Chandler. Magoo inspired
young Lamson in his quest to race “The Big Time”, just like Danny did.
His dream came true in 1988 as Steve got his first chance to race the
big time during the AMA Pro National at Hangtown. Finishing 13th
overall against a top field of riders, Lamson’s pro racing career was
launched. It didn’t take long for the kid from Nor-Cal to make his
mark.
Noting
the potential of Lamson’s talent, Team Honda offered him a ride in
1993. Honda knew it was just a matter of time before Steve would take a
national title. For two consecutive years, Lamson dominated the AMA
125cc Pro division winning the 125cc AMA Pro National title in 1995
& 1996, continued with team Honda through the 1998 racing season.
Since
retiring from racing in 2005, Lamson has been giving back to the sport
through his motocross schools and as team manager and mentor to the
likes of Nick Wey and David Vuillemin.
“There are so many champions from the past that deserve an award like this” theProfessor Gary
Bailey remarks. “It was awesome to be involved with so many of our
past champions and witnessing their wins and championships. Steve
Lamson was one of those guys. I remember him when he first signed with
Team Honda and watched him throughout his racing career. I liked his
style on the track, but most of all, I liked his style off the track.
Steve was and still is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever know, and that
means a lot to me. I really wish I could have been there for this
award as Steve was not just a great rider, but a good friend. Congratulations Steve!” Mr. Bailey adds.
“Steve Lamson, Hangtown, and CR125 will always be synonymous!
Lamy will tell you - Hangtown was his favorite track, the location
of several of his AMA National wins and the CR125 was his favorite
ride!” Tom White of the Early Years of Motocross Museum remembers.
Tom adds “Steve is considered by many as one of the fastest 125 pilots
of all time. Teamed with the Factory Honda CR125, Lamson powered to AMA
National titles in 1995 & 1996. Great news for me when I heard the
likeable Lamson will be working with my friends - Team Tedder!”
The
Tours managing partners, Alex Moroz & Mike Owens quote “Lamson is
one of those champs that had such a great career developing his skills
with the likes of Jeremy McGraph, Jeff Stanton and Erik Kehoe. In a
field of such great talent, he was at the pinnacle of his career with
team Honda dominating the moto scene from 1993 until his retirement in
2005.”
Steve Lamson will be
at the Legends & Heroes Tour Moto 2 Museum exhibition at the
Cowboy’s Stadium in Arlington, TX this Saturday, February 18, 2012
at 3:00pm for a “Meet & Greet” with the fans.
