Lancelot hopes to win battle with Laier at home round

FUNCHAL
(PORTUGAL)
, 2 June 2010 – Having won all three rounds of the FIM Women’s
World Championship, Steffi Laier leads the series with an healthy advantage
over archrival Livia Lancelot. The latter, who is second in the
Championship, hopes that her home round this weekend will be the turning
point of the season. Maria Franke is third and completes an all KTM top
three.

Red Bull KTM
Factory Racing’s Laier came out of Bellpuig with a perfect score as she won
both heats.
The
defending Champion has increased her points lead and now holds an advantage
of 25 points from runner up Lancelot.

The French of KTM HDI MX was the only one able to beat Laier in one moto
this year when she exploited a crash of the German to win moto one in
Portugal. Lancelot needs a victory to cut the gap from Laier and her home
round would be the perfect stage to take her first win of 2010. Lancelot
won in Ernee in 2009 but her home appearance in St. Jean in 2008 ended with
third overall.

Diga KTM’s Franke has been a solid contender since round one and that
resulted into a well deserved third place in the WMX Championship. Franke
is yet to win a moto in her career and the French hard pack may be the
perfect ground for the German to exploit her aggressive style.

HM Plant Red Bull KTM UK’s Kane is a close fourth as she is just one point
behind Franke. Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2’s Papenmeier and Fontanesi
round off a packed top six.
