Laier Gets Closer to Maiden FIM Women’s World Championship Title

UDDEVALLA (SWEDEN), 5 July 2009 – Collecting other two heat wins in Sweden, where she won the first edition of the Women’s World Cup back in 2005, Laier took a step closer to her first World Championship Title. Franke and Kane completed the podium.

Showing her speed already in the opening moto yesterday, Laier carried on winning and wrapped up today’s overall. Laier built on her Championship lead while defending Champion Lancelot only attended Uddevalla as a spectator, as she is due to undergo surgery to her right shoulder on Tuesday and then rest for four months.

Courtesy of today’s performance Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Laier celebrated her fourth consecutive heat win and second consecutive overall triumph as the German leads the Championship with just one round remaining.

Second on the podium was Kawasaki Elf Pfeil’s Franke, who took two second places in the heats. MVR-D Suzuki’s Kane completed the podium at her first rostrum appearance in the Women’s World Championship. Kane, who was third yesterday, brought the bike home in third again today.

Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2’s Papenmeier ended her podium row as she finished a bitter fourth overall. The German crashed in both heats but recovered well to salvage a top five finish. Papenmeier remains second to Laier in the Championship but third placed Franke is just one point away now.

Home star Mann rounded off the top five overall.
