Laier Defends 2009 Title With Sevlievo’s win

SEVLIEVO
(BULGARIA), 4 April 2010 – Defending Women’s World Champion
Stephanie Laier
took victory at the series’ opening round and collected a total of
50
Championship points through two heat wins. Youngster Chiara
Fontanesi
joined the German on the podium which was completed by Maria Franke.

Winning yesterday’s first moto, Laier of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing
went
on to take another victory today in the same style, leading the pack
from
the start then pulling away. The 2009 Women’s World Champion topped
the
Bulgarian podium and earned the first red plate of 2010.

Second on the rostrum was Fontanesi who built on yesterday’s second
place
finish with a third place in the second heat. The Italian managed to
take second
after passing Fiolek at the beginning of the race but Diga KTM’s
Franke
stormed to her tail and eventually moved past for the runner up
position.

Franke was third on the podium courtesy of today’s result, which
added to a
fifth place on Saturday.

Lancelot left Bulgaria with a fourth overall. The 2008 Women’s World
Champion struggled in yesterday’s first heat but a radical change in
the
bike set up gave her confidence for today. Unfortunately the French
stalled
her KTM at the start but recovered to a valuable fourth.

Fiolek and Papenmeier completed the top six overall.
